Owner & Program Director

Karen has been the proud owner of Rocky Mountain Sports Camp Inc. since 2012, continuing a vision that began in 2000 when her friend  Kristi Denby first launched the camp in Invermere. What started as a small gym and field based program has grown into a dynamic, multi-sport adventure experience in multiple locations, thanks to the support of a passionate team. 

A former member of the Canadian National Freestyle Ski Team, Karen brings a high-performance athletic background to everything she does.  She is also a massage practitioner at the Wellness Room in Squamish and a freestyle ski coach in Whistler, with years of experience working with children in sport through gymnastics, skiing and mindset training.  Her approach blends skill development with confidence building, supporting both kids and coaches to grow in sport and in life. 

Karen lives in Squamish with her two daughters, Lily Jane and Cedar Grace and continues to be deeply involved in creating meaningful, active experiences for youth.

From behind the scenes, Karen  continues to guide the camp closely and takes great care in selecting coaches who not only bring strong skills, but also reflect the camp's values and culture of safety, kindness and fun!

Head Coach

- Full Day Program

Maya has lived in Invermere her whole life and is happy to call the valley her home. She was once an RMSC camper and is excited to be returning as a coach for a second summer! Maya spends all the time she can in the mountains hiking, paddling, skiing and camping. When not outdoors in the valley, Maya is attending the University of Alberta as a Conservation Biology student. She can’t wait to share her love of the outdoors and nature with the RMSC kids this summer! 

Head Coach & Lifeguard

- Half Day Minis Program

Bianca is so excited to be returning for her second summer as Head Coach for the Half Day Minis Program! She is originally from Edmonton, but Fairmont has always felt like a second home.  She loves everything the outdoors has to offer, from hiking and lake days to beach volleyball. She is also a competitive swimmer and enjoys skiing and snowboarding in the winter. She is passionate about creating a fun, active, and supportive environment at camp, and can’t wait for another amazing summer!

Coach

Calvin was a long time RMSC camper before taking the LIT Program and volunteer coaching at RMSC.  Four years ago he transitioned to coach and loves sharing his joy of being active outside with kids. His house is in Calgary, where he attends French immersion, but he really LIVES in the mountains and around the Columbia valley. When he isn’t training for cross country skiing (year round as he is on the provincial development team) or roller skiing and hiking in our beautiful mountains, you can find him playing baseball, reading or floating the Colombia river.  

Coach

Ellie grew up in Calgary and loves spending time outdoors and staying active year-round. In the winter, she enjoys skiing and playing ringette, and in the summer, she loves swimming and hiking. Ellie enjoys being active, trying new things, and spending time with others through sports and outdoor activities. She is excited to be part of Rocky Mountain Sports Camp again this summer and looks forward to making new memories and having a great camp experience.

Coach & Lifeguard

Alexa is excited to be returning to camp for her second summer as a Jr. Coach! She has a strong background in both athletics and outdoor adventure, completing in swimming at the National level and spending her winters backcountry skiing in the mountains. Alexa loves being active and sharing her passion for the outdoors with others. Whether she's in the water, exploring trails or leading games, you'll always find her doing something energetic and fun!  She is so excited to spend another summer with the RMSC kids!

Coach & Lifeguard

Will is from Calgary and is excited to be returning to RMSC this summer! He previously worked at camp for two years and is looking forward to being back in a place he knows and enjoys. Will loves spending time outdoors, especially skiing in the winter and staying active in the mountains year round. Whether it is being outside with friends or exploring new places, he enjoys making the most of everything the outdoors has to offer. He is excited to share his energy and love for the outdoors with campers and help make it a great summer.

 Manager & Coach

 Sarah Davidson is an avid mountain biker, hiker, and lover of all things outdoors. She holds a master’s degree in education and is currently teaching fifth grade in Nanaimo. Sarah is an active volunteer for the Nanaimo Mountain Bike Club, through which she organizes and leads group mountain bike rides. She also directs Nanaimo’s all-female enduro mountain bike race, the Murderhorn Maiden.  Sarah is also a mother of three.

Head Coach

 Maddyson is excited to be the head coach again this summer and to share her love for outdoor

activities with the campers!  She has always loved working with kids and supporting them in everything they do, whether it’s mentoring in skills, creating fun games, or encouraging them to try new things. 

She is currently a VIU student, but outside of school she enjoys her time outdoors,

especially when it comes to swimming, hiking, and camping.

With her passion for making lasting memories and creating a supportive environment, She looks forward to helping campers grow in confidence and skill this summer! 

Coach

Landon is from Campbell River, BC and is living in Nanaimo as a fourth year student athlete at Vancouver Island University. While he loves playing baseball, in his off time he loves to go hiking, biking and exploring the outdoors! Landon is in the Bachelor of Education program and loves putting smiles on kids faces! He is super excited to make all of the campers happy while perusing becoming an Elementary School Teacher:)

Manager & Head Coach

 James is the Head Coach and Manager for our Squamish location. This is his third summer at RMSC and he can't wait to organize all sorts of fun games and activities for the campers on top of his primary role as a human jungle gym. James is a local elementary school teacher who recently completed his Masters of Education at UBC. He first fell in love with teaching while working at summer camps, including a summer spent abroad at an international summer camp based out of Switzerland. James loves to spend his time in Squamish mountain biking, hiking, and playing ultimate frisbee. 

Coach 

  Tegan is a passionate primary school teacher living in beautiful Squamish, British Columbia. With a deep love for nature, she jumps at every opportunity to teach on the land, bringing the great outdoors into her practice. Outside of teaching and coaching, Tegan is an avid adventurer, embracing trail running, hiking, gravel biking, and sea kayaking. She also finds joy in writing stories, cuddling up with a great book, and spending time with the people she loves. 

This summer, she is excited to work with a diverse group of young minds at RMSC, guiding them through the incredible outdoor experiences that Squamish has to offer. From exploring the trails on both bike and foot, paddling and swimming the gorgeous local lakes, and embracing the challenge of rock climbing, it's sure to be another summer filled with memories that will last a lifetime!

Coach 

Anna is a primary school teacher living in Squamish, BC, who believes the best classroom is the great outdoors. She is just finishing up her Master of Education at SFU with a focus on nature-based and place-conscious learning, so she basically gets a degree for doing what she loves. When she’s not teaching, you’ll find her trail running, mountain biking, skiing, rock climbing, or sea kayaking around this incredible place she calls home. Anna is so excited to join the RMSC team this summer and can’t wait to help every kid leave camp feeling more confident, capable, and stoked on the outdoors!

Head of Rock Climbing & ACMG Rock Guide

 James is an ACMG Rock guide and avid climber. He's been in Squamish for 6 years exploring the outdoors and climbing! Originally from Ontario, James loves to share his love for climbing and the outdoors with others. James learned to climb in an outdoor-ed program in high school in his home town. He knows how powerful a positive introduction to an outdoor activity can have and since then it's changed his life trajectory entirely. James Is working towards becoming a full mountain guide. He's so exited to join RMSC again this summer! 

ACMG Aprentice Rock Guide

 Kayden is an ACMG Apprentice Rock Guide and Adventure Studies graduate of Thompson Rivers University. He's spent his last five Summers living and climbing in Squamish, and his last five Autumns traveling Western North America honing his craft. He is invested in sharing his passion of climbing and the outdoors through guiding and teaching. He works hard to create a safe space for people to experience the beauty of nature and to conquer their fear.

Junior Coach & Lifeguard

 Alex is from Southern Ontario and loves to spend time in Squamish. He is a certified scuba diver and lifeguard. His passion for rock climbing has taken him on many adventures in Canada and the US. He spends time outdoors at his cottage near Algonquin Park, where he enjoys fishing, hiking and canoeing. Alex also devotes his time to distance running, working out and playing pickleball.  Alex can’t wait to meet new people at RMSC and share his love for the outdoors as a junior coach again this summer!
